Supplemental Materials for "Empowering Faculty"
Welcome! My name is Christopher Hanusa. I was appointed as the Faculty Liaison for Evaluation and Assessment at Queens College from 2023–2026. This page contains the supplemental materials for the talk I gave at the AAC&U CLASS conference on April 4, 2025 in San Juan, PR.
Title:
Empowering faculty as partners in building assessment and evaluation processes
Abstract:
In an environment where everyone is expected to do more with less, how do we leverage existing human capital to develop assessment infrastructure that works? This presentation describes the process of building a supportive evaluation and assessment structure at a large urban public institution through strategic elevation of faculty to lead roles.
As the campus’s first Faculty Liaison for Evaluation and Assessment, the presenter will speak to the power of promoting the voice of faculty during the development of this human infrastructure. Key initiatives in this process include engaging assessment coordinators, creating a college-wide assessment council, developing a faculty fellow program focused on matters of general education, and a reimagination of the Academic Program Review cycle.
Participants will have the opportunity to plan ways to adapt these strategies to their own institutions.
